When you get an email like that, you of course say, “fuck yeah, dude.” What’s more, is it was a birthday show for Dave Grohl’s 57th. Which he and the band took as an opportunity to do a benefit show raising money for Hope United: Hope the Mission - the largest rescue mission network in the region, operating dozens of interim housing and recovery sites - and Los Angeles Mission, a historic Skid Row pillar serving individuals and families in downtown Los Angeles since 1936. Together, these groups provide nearly 4 million meals and over 1 million nights of shelter annually across Los Angeles County. I wanted to do something alien-related because of the “Foo Fighters” name origin; the name WWII pilots gave mysterious aerial phenomena and unidentified flying objects. I also wanted to do something Dave-specific since it was for a birthday show.
