SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

Logo Design // Design Systems // Custom Typography
Since 2016, NBC's "Sunday Night Football" has finished the TV season as Primetime’s No.1 Show. NBC's Sunday Night Football continues to dominate Sunday viewership for the 11th consecutive year.

I was given the opportunity to partner with Compadre to create a new logo for SNF that shows their brand evolution, and ushers in the future of SNF as America’s tentpole sporting event.

How do you stand out in an overcrowded sea of shields? By leading the pack.

After examining the logos of other football shows that fans are tuning in to, we made the bold decision to remove the iconic shield. By doing so, we were able to reconsider the messaging hierarchy with our custom typography to put the emphasis back on the messaging. This also allowed us to bring the identity of the SNF pregame show, Football Night in America, into a consistent voice.

Take a closer look at the new logo and you might notice a familiar bird. I designed a custom letterform system that integrates the NBC “beak” of the peacock to directly connect Sunday Night Football to its parent brand. It’s a subtle but ownable way to reinforce the connection that the biggest show in football is on NBC.

The removal of the shield not only allows SNF to stand out in the category, but it also gives the new logo the design flexibility needed for social and digital platforms, as well as various printing needs.

Outside of the “beak” detail, the characters used in the work mark were completely custom designed. We built out an entire library of custom Assets for SNF and FNIA.

Compadre worked with 3D artist and designer Drew MacEachern to develop the marquee treatment of the logos; finalizing the logo suite.

The NBC Sports internal team took the logo toolkit and implimented them into thier new on-air package. We’re all thrilled with how everything tuned out, and are looking forward to seeing these logos every Sunday night for years to come.
